Rangers v Ross County preview: Barton left out by Ibrox side
Friday 16 September 2016 21:11, UK
Joey Barton will miss Rangers' home meeting with Ross County in the Scottish Premiership as they look to react positively to last week's Old Firm defeat.
The former England midfielder played the full 90 minutes of the 5-1 defeat to Celtic and has started each of the Ibrox side's league games this season.
He was involved in a training ground row on Tuesday and after being sent home, has been told not to return to the club's Auchenhowie base until next week.
Barton has since apologised for his part in the incident, which ensures he will not be considered for Rangers' first ever league game against County after previous League Cup meetings.
Manager Mark Warburton has a number of selection issues to contend with, although the issue of who plays in central defence is a straightforward one.
With Philippe Senderos suspended after his red card at Celtic Park and Rob Kiernan sidelined by an ankle injury, Danny Wilson should return from a calf problem to partner Clint Hill.
Former Leicester forward Joe Dodoo is still out with an ankle injury but Matt Crooks is now close to being considered following a similar problem.
He has been involved in recent U20 games and could make his debut against Queen of the South in the Betfred Cup on Tuesday.
Jason Holt is fit following a recent absence while Jordan Rossiter could be in the squad after missing the derby.
Recent Ross County signing Ryan Dow is still struggling with fitness and is not available for selection for the visitors.
Defender Jay McEveley is banned after his red card last weekend against Motherwell, while full-back Marcus Fraser is getting close to a first appearance of the season following his shoulder problem.
