Rochdale have no fresh injury concerns or suspensions as they prepare to host Chesterfield in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.
But manager Keith Hill is set to make the maximum of five permitted changes following his side's loss to Bradford at the weekend.
That means a number of fringe players could come into contention against their Sky Bet League 1 rivals.
Hill said: "I believe, with our current squad, we shouldn't be restricted to only making five changes to the starting XI. I think we would have liked to make one or two more. But five is enough for me. I don't think it will dilute our opportunities on the night."
Chesterfield will be without the suspended Sam Morsy for the second-round tie.
Morsy was booked for the fifth time this season during the league win at Crewe on Saturday and he will serve a one-match ban.
Boss Dean Saunders has plenty of options available to replace the combative midfielder, with the likes of Ollie Banks, Jake Orrell, Dion Donohue, Sam Hird and Ritchie Humphreys all capable of playing in the centre of the park.
Forward Lee Novak (thigh) and long-term absentee Angel Martinez (knee) remain out.
