Sheffield United midfielder Jose Baxter (suspension) could go straight into the starting line-up after serving a three-game ban for his straight red card in the Capital One Cup defeat at Fulham.
Forward Che Adams (illness) missed out at the weekend and will be monitored, while Ryan Flynn is hoping to make his first league start of the season after stepping off the bench in Saturday's home defeat to Bury.
Colchester manager Tony Humes has a near fully-fit squad from which to choose from.
The only confirmed absentee is striker and club captain Chris Porter, who will miss out on playing against his former side because of the ankle injury that has so far marred much of his season.
Few changes are expected from the team which drew 3-3 at Chesterfield on Saturday.
