Highlights of the Sky Bet Championship clash between Sheffield Wednesday and Reading at Hillsborough

Reading moved up to fourth in the Sky Bet Championship with a crucial 2-0 victory over play-off rivals Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough.

Goals from Yann Kermorgant and Adrian Popa helped the Royals leapfrog Leeds, their next opponents on April 1, following only their second win in six matches.

Wednesday have now only won one of their last six games and occupy sixth place, just a point above Fulham who host Wolves on Saturday.

Kermorgant put the visitors ahead in the 13th minute, cutting in from the right and slotting the ball beyond Keiren Westwood's reach, into the far corner of the net.

As Wednesday looked for a swift response, Adam Reach shot wide and Sam Winnall fired in a low effort which was easily dealt with by Ali Al-Habsi.

Morgan Fox went close to equalising midway through the half when he controlled the ball just outside the area and saw his effort strike Al-Habsi's left-hand post.

Soon after the restart, Wednesday striker Jordan Rhodes went close with a a header on target from Barry Bannan's corner, but it was straight at Al-Habsi.

Wednesday head coach Carlos Carvalhal made a change in attack midway through the second period, sending on Steven Fletcher in place of Winnall. And Fletcher was soon involved, firing in a shot which was deflected off-target.

It was the start of a good spell for the home side, firstly with Will Buckley forcing a double save from Al-Habsi.

Substitute Callum McManaman then had a shot parried and the ball fell to Buckley, whose ball across the face of goal just evaded Rhodes as the striker stretched to try and connect with it.

The impressive Al-Habsi was called into action again, producing a good save to keep Buckley's effort out.

Deep into stoppage time, substitute Popa added a second, finding the unguarded net after goalkeeper Westwood was left stranded after going upfield.

Sheffield Wednesday boss Carlos Carvalhal: "I think all of us will agree that we did everything to win the game. We gave the maximum and we deserved to win the game, in my opinion.

"My players played with a fantastic attitude and they created a lot of chances. The highlights will explain the story of the game very easily.

"This is not over yet. We're still alive and we'll be focused in the last eight games to achieve the points which will achieve a good position."

Reading boss Jaap Stam: "It's been a fight and I'm very proud of my team. In these games it's going to be very tight, especially away from home and we knew it was going to be very hard. We also knew what we could do to make it hard for them.

"We scored a very good early goal and they gave us time to play. They had their chances as well, which is normal.

"Part of our game plan was to keep the ball and make them impatient. We succeeded in doing that."
