Harry Kane will return for Tottenham when they travel to Sunderland in the Premier League on Tuesday night.

Kane missed the win against Wycombe, but is fit and available for manager Mauricio Pochettino, whose side are looking to keep pace with Chelsea at the top of the Premier League.

Spurs have lost ground on the Blues since beating them on January 4 at White Hart lane, and are now nine points behind Antonio Conte's side with 16 games remaining.

Sunderland, who are bottom of the table, have won just once in their last eight games, but are only three points from safety going into the game.

Team news

Sunderland boss David Moyes will be without Papy Djilobodji for Tottenham's Premier League visit to the Stadium of Light.

Djilobodji begins a four-match ban after having an FA violent conduct charge found proven following a clash with West Brom's Darren Fletcher, but new signing Joleon Lescott could be included while defender Lamine Kone and midfielder Didier Ndong have returned from the African Nations Cup.

Aside from Kane, Toby Alderweireld (hamstring) and Danny Rose (knee), both absent for the FA Cup clash, are also set to start for Spurs.

Kieran Trippier will be unavailable after sustaining a knock against Wycombe while Jan Vertonghen (ankle) and Erik Lamela (hip) are still out.

Opta stats

Sunderland are winless in their last 13 Premier League games against Tottenham (D3 L10). The only current Premier League side they are experiencing a worse run against are Arsenal (14).

Tottenham have won their last four league games against Sunderland. The last time they won five successively against the Black Cats was in March 2002.

Sunderland have allowed their opponents 77 more shots on target (141) than they have attempted themselves this season (64); the biggest negative difference in the Premier League.

Conversely, Spurs have had 73 shots on target more than their opponents this season (137 v 64); the biggest positive difference.

Of the current top six, Spurs have collected the fewest points away from home (17/33).

Jermain Defoe scored 91 goals in 276 Premier League appearances for Tottenham Hotspur, but has only scored one goal in nine PL games against them (for Portsmouth in September 2008).

Merson's prediction

What is going on at Sunderland? Patrick van Aanholt has been allowed to leave the club while Papy Djilobodji is out injured, leaving them short ahead of this game. Yes, Darron Gibson and Bryan Oviedo looks as though they're heading to Wearside, but whether they will feature against Spurs remains to seen.

It's not the best preparation ahead of free-flowing Tottenham's trip to the Stadium of Light. I can only see one winner.
