Tottenham v Southampton preview: Mousa Dembele will serve six-match ban

Tottenham v Southampton cover graphic

Mauricio Pochettino will be without Mousa Dembele for Tottenham's last home game of the season against Southampton on Sunday after the midfielder was handed a six-match suspension.

Dembele appeared to gouge Diego Costa's eye during Spurs' 2-2 draw at Chelsea on Monday night.

Tottenham needed a win at Stamford Bridge to have any hope of winning the title, but the draw saw Leicester take an unassailable lead and crowned champions.

Dembele will now miss Spurs' remaining matches this Premier League season - at home to Saints and at Newcastle a week later - and the first four fixtures of next term.

Second-placed Spurs are already guaranteed to be playing in the Champions League next season while the visitors head into the match, live on Super Sunday, unbeaten in their last four top flight games.

Southampton manager Ronald Koeman has a fully-fit squad to choose from.

Graziano Pelle was left out of the squad for their 4-2 win over Manchester City last weekend due to a poor showing in training and the Saints boss is yet to make a decision on whether he will be included this weekend.

Koeman told reporters he has "reacted okay" to being left out of the squad but will not make a final decision on his starting XI until after their final training session on Saturday.

Tottenham have won six and lost none of their last seven Premier League meetings with Southampton.

Saints have lost just two of their last eight Premier League away games (W4 D2 L2).

Tottenham have lost none of their last seven Premier League matches at White Hart Lane, winning five.

Tottenham have won a league-high 19 points from losing positions this season, however they've also lost 17 points from leading positions, a figure inferior only to Liverpool (19) and Everton (18).

Southampton need just three points from their remaining games to equal their best ever points total in a Premier League season, which was set last season by Koeman (60).

Only Darren Anderton (14 in 94/95) has provided more assists in a single Premier League season for Tottenham than Christian Eriksen has in this campaign (13).

Sadio Mane has scored seven goals in his last six Premier League games for Southampton; this after a run of 19 league appearances without finding the back of the net.

Koeman has revealed he's due to have talks about his future with the club at the end of the season

Harry Kane has scored 14 goals in his last 15 Premier League appearances for Spurs.

Koeman's side have collected 33 points in 2016, behind only the current top two in the Premier League (Leicester 38 and Tottenham 35).

Merson's predictions

All of a sudden Tottenham have gone from title chasers to wondering if they're going to finish above Arsenal. For me, they've got to give their all for this game if they can. If they don't finish above Arsenal, that's a double blow after not winning the league, for the fans especially.

Jamie Redknapp joins Ed Chamberlain to preview Super Sunday's Premier League games between Tottenham and Southampton and Manchester City against Arsenal

They've had a great season, but I think this will be a difficult game. I'm going to go 2-2, I think Southampton are a decent team, and Tottenham may just have a hangover. Ronald Koeman has done a brilliant job at Southampton, and I'd like to see him at Arsenal if I'm honest. He's a top, top manager.
