However, fellow new Watford signing Roberto Pereyra is awaiting a work permit having completed his move from Serie A champions Juventus.

Summer arrival Isaac Success could be involved if he can shake off a hamstring problem, but Ben Watson is still suspended.

The last meeting between these sides was their only previous meeting in this competition - Watford won 3-0 in a first round tie in August 2007.

Gillingham's last win at Vicarage Road in all competitions came in a second tier league meeting in March 2003 (1-0), losing two and drawing one since then.

The Hornets have reached the third round of the League Cup in just one of the previous seven seasons (2013-14).

Meanwhile, Gillingham have not progressed past the second round since 2005-06, beating Portsmouth 3-2 at Priestfield - which was also the last time they beat Premier League opposition in the competition.
