Shaquile Coulthirst will come straight into the Wigan squad against Doncaster after joining on loan from Tottenham.
The forward became the club's 16th signing of the summer when he moved to the DW Stadium on Friday and joins a team who lost both of their opening two games of the season.
Don Cowie has had an operation on his calf in Sweden and will be out for some time, while fellow midfielders Emyr Huws and Tim Chow (both ankle) are back doing light work on the grass.
That just leaves Grant Holt (knee) as Latics' only other long-term absentee.
Doncaster will assess their squad after they played 120 minutes in Thursday's Capital One Cup penalty shootout win over Leeds.
Rovers triumphed after an impressive performance against their Championship opponents and boss Paul Dickov will see how his side recover.
Dany N'Guessan is a doubt with the foot injury that ruled him out of that Leeds game, but Paul Keegan could return after a knee problem as could Richard Chaplow (groin).
Nathan Tyson will be pushing for a start after coming off the bench on Thursday, but he will do well to replace Andy Williams in attack.
