Paul Pogba given permission to have Manchester United medical

Manchester United have confirmed that Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba has been given permission to have a medical.

The news means that the summer's biggest transfer is a major step closer to completion ahead of United's opening Premier League game against Bournemouth on August 14, live on Sky Sports.

Sky sources understand that the fee United will pay Juve will be around €105m - £89m - £3m more than Real Madrid paid for Gareth Bale and therefore a new world record.

Sky Sports News HQ understands the earliest the medical can begin is Monday and it may take a couple of days or even longer. 

A statement on the United website - under the hashtag 'Pogback' - read: "Paul Pogba has been granted permission to have a medical in order to finalise his transfer from Juventus to Manchester United."

Pogba, who will undergo the medical at the club's AON Training Complex, had been on holiday in the United States while his agent Mino Raiola tried to broker the move for the France midfielder.

And on Friday, United boss Jose Mourinho said the club was trying "everything to close the market as quickly as possible".

Juve boss Massimiliano Allegri revealed on Saturday that he had summoned Pogba back to Italy to resume training on Monday.

But the final hurdles in the drawn-out saga appear now to have been jumped, and Pogba will now begin the process of becoming a United player for the second time by undergoing his medical.
