Scotland coach Shelley Kerr backs woman to take charge in Premier League

Scotland women's new head coach Shelley Kerr has backed Arsene Wenger's belief that a woman could take charge of a club in the Premier League sooner rather than later.

Kerr believes the number of new coaches coming through the system will eventually lead to more women managing men's teams.

Kerr previously managed Stirling University's men's team in Scotland's Lowland League, one level below the Scottish Professional Football League.

Kerr is backing Arsene Wenger's belief that female managers could take charge in the Premier League

Wenger has said he expects a woman to take charge in England's top flight in the future and Kerr concurs with the veteran Arsenal manager.

"I think he's right, I think there are many female coaches that could do it," said Kerr.

"There's lots of females worldwide that have the capabilities and the skill-set to do it. Everything depends on success. It's a results driven business. It's just such an exciting time.

"As part of your journey, you need to try and develop that skill-set, you need to have different experiences at all different levels and when you're successful then that puts you in a great position to go to the top."
