Cork GAA vote against controversial championship structure

Cork GAA have voted against a proposal which would have seen club championship games played without county stars.
The county committee met on Tuesday night to vote on three proposals which sees an overhaul of the current structure.
The highest profile motion suggested that some club championship games would take place during the summer months, with county players not involved but reduced points would be on offer to reflect their absence. However, 'Option C' was comprehensively voted down at the meeting, with the delegation opting for a move which sees one round take place in April before the remainder of the competitions resuming in August.
The successful option received 136 votes, while 'Option C' garnered just 52.
As it caused a great degree of debate nationwide, it did shine a light on the current fixture conundrum, with the Club Players Association among those calling for an overhaul to the calendar to allow more time for club games across the country. Indeed, the CPA led calls for this motion to be defeated.
The changes in Cork will come into effect in 2020.
