Sale boss pays tribute to fly-half's last ditch winner

Sale director of rugby Philippe Saint-Andre paid tribute to Charlie Hodgson after his last gasp drop-goal earned his side an 18-15 victory over Saracens on Friday. Hodgson, who has not been included in England's elite player squad for this season, banished his international blues, striking in the dying seconds to send the Edgeley Park faithful ballistic. Director of rugby Saint-Andre beamed: "We had a very honest discussion with Charlie and he's come back even stronger. "Last week he scored a try to win the game and now he has showed strength in his mind to score a drop-goal. "I am pleased to have Charlie Hodgson in my squad and if England want him then he is here." Saracens were unlucky and the outcome may well have been a different story had they not had what looked like a perfectly legal score disallowed by Andy Saull in the 50th minute. But referee Rob Debney adjudged the young forward to have knocked on and the visitors slumped to their second consecutive defeat. Saracens director of rugby Eddie said: "It's the luck of the draw if you get those things and I'm very proud of our boys' effort and I thought our application was far better than last week."
