Anglo-Welsh Cup: Northampton Saints cruise but Harlequins falter

Stand-in skipper Ben Foden scored two tries as Northampton stayed in contention for the semi-finals of the Anglo-Welsh Cup with a thumping 50-10 win over the Scarlets.
The hosts scored eight times in total against a young line-up from west Wales who, with several Principality Premiership players in their midst, found the step-up too much to handle.
Northampton now have to wait until Sunday, where they will be relying on a favour from Leicester, who would send their East Midlands rivals into the last four with victory at Saracens.
Foden and replacement hooker James Fish scored braces for Saints with Jamie Gibson, Michael Paterson, Harry Mallinder and Ken Pisi also touching down.
Meanwhile, Harlequins' Anglo-Welsh Cup hopes suffered a blow as they went down 13-10 to Sale at the Stoop.
Quins are still Pool 3 winners but this loss is likely to deprive them of a crucial home semi-final.
Sale's victory puts them temporarily top of Pool 2 but qualification to the next round appears improbable as both Exeter and Ospreys would have to lose their remaining fixtures.
Neil Briggs scored a try for Sale with Will Addison converting and kicking two penalties. Quins picked up a penalty try with Ruaridh Jackson kicking a penalty and a conversion.
