Bath forward Charlie Ewels has been cleared for autumn internationals duty with England after a favourable hearing at an RFU disciplinary panel on Wednesday.

Ewels had been cited for a dangerous tackle on Gloucester's Henry Trinder on Sunday, October 29, and faced the worst-case scenario of a six-week suspension had the charge been proven.

However, the citing was dismissed by the panel so Ewels is free to play with immediate effect.

A spokesman said: "The panel was satisfied that an act of foul play had been committed but concluded that this dangerous tackle did not meet the red card threshold. Accordingly, the citing was dismissed and the player is free to play with immediate effect."

Ewels has played five times for England, with his last two international appearances coming during this summer's tour of Argentina, when a number of key players were unavailable to England coach Eddie Jones due to British and Irish Lions commitments.

The news comes on the day Jones learned he would be without both Jack Nowell and Jonny May for the game against the Pumas.
