Leicester Tigers wing Jonny May cleared to face Exeter Chiefs

Jonny May will not face any suspension for his red card in Leicester's 29-17 Aviva Premiership loss to Saracens on Christmas Eve.

The England wing was dismissed for two yellow cards for deliberate interceptions at Welford Road, with Leicester boss Matt O'Connor frustrated with both decisions.

English rugby bosses have conducted a disciplinary hearing, however, and deemed May's red card sufficient punishment.

So the former Gloucester wing is free to feature in Leicester's New Year's Eve trip to Exeter Chiefs.

"The player is free to play again immediately," the Rugby Football Union confirmed in a statement.

"The sanction table set out at Appendix 1 to RFU Regulation 19 here determines that the sanction for two yellow cards, where both are given for technical offences, is sending off sufficient.

"The charges against Leicester Tigers' Jonny May were heard on papers by an independent single judiciary officer.

"The player was shown a red card after receiving two yellow cards in the match Leicester Tigers v Saracens on Sunday, December 24, 2017.

"Both yellow cards were awarded for deliberate knock-ons. The first yellow card was issued in the ninth minute of the match and the second was issued in the 69th minute of the match.

"May consented to the matter being dealt with on the papers."
