Record-setting Aussie back Drew Mitchell says progress in the tournament is all that matters

Australian back Drew Mitchell hopes he has done enough to feature at some point against England this weekend after becoming his country's record World Cup try-scorer on Sunday.

The Toulon man bagged a brace against Uruguay during Australia's 65-3 win at Villa Park and has now scored 12 tries in appearances at the tournament over the years.

New Zealand's Jonah Lomu leads the way with 15 but Mitchell has touched down more often than former Aussie stars such as David Campese.

But Mitchell is more concerned about advancing in the tournament and is already thinking about this Saturday's massive clash with England at Twickenham.

Australia are expected to largely revert to the team who played in their first match against Fiji but Mitchell will be in contention for a place in the squad.

Regarding the try-scoring record, he said: "That's probably going to be something that I look back on.

"There are far more important things that we're trying to achieve as a group, and hopefully there's a bigger outcome.

"In terms of pressing claims, it's more about me crossing the line and finishing.

"There are a lot of things that (head coach Michael) Cheika and the selectors and the coaches will look at, about things off the ball.

"I'll go back and sit down with them and have a look at my game. Hopefully, at least, my name is thrown into the ring for selection."

Following their dramatic loss to Wales at the weekend, England will probably be heading out of the tournament if they cannot win this weekend, but the Wallabies are only thinking about their own game.

"We've been really insular in terms of our focus," Mitchell added.

"I thought the boys played really well on Wednesday against Fiji. They set a platform and we want to make sure we at least maintain it and take it further."
