Prop Rory Sutherland extends Edinburgh stay until 2019

Edinburgh Rugby has confirmed that Scotland international prop Rory Sutherland will stay with the club until May 2019.

Sutherland, 24, graduated to a fully professional deal in 2014, after joining the club on an academy contract, and has since made 51 competitive appearances in the black and red.

The loosehead prop made his Scotland debut when he came off the bench to face Ireland in the final game of the 2016 Six Nations, before going on to make a further two appearances against Japan on the national team's 2016 summer tour.

"I've enjoyed my two-and-a-half years with Edinburgh and the club has done me well. Everything is moving forward and I'm really happy to be a part of the team for another two seasons," said Sutherland.

"Duncan [Hodge] has brought in a real attacking edge to the Edinburgh game, which I think will suit the way I want and like to play.

"There's a good feeling around the club just now and I feel that this is the right place for me to stay to take my rugby to the next level and try to continue being involved in the Scotland set-up."

Acting head coach Duncan Hodge described Sutherland's extension as a huge boost for the squad.

He said: "He's accomplished a lot in his first few years at the club - clocking up over 50 Edinburgh Rugby appearances.

"His hard work was rewarded earlier this year when he was capped by the national team.

"Front-row is an area where we have a lot of experience and competition and Rory has used this to his advantage, he works with those around him to continue developing his own game."
