Coach proud of his side's efforts

Gloucester head coach Bryan Redpath announced himself 'delighted' after his side's impressive win over Pool 2 winners Biarritz. The 23-8 victory may not be enough to set the Cherry and Whites on their way to a best runners-up quarter-final place, but it may get them an Amlin Challenge Cup spot on offer for three other second-placed sides. Redpath said: "Defensively we were strong and disciplined in the contact area. In attack, we created a lot and took our opportunities so, therefore, I'm obviously delighted. "Nicky kicked pretty well and Tim Molenaar's try at the end was good which came from Eliota's break. Some of the opportunities we took makes a difference. "Eliota was outstanding as was (Akapusi) Qera and (Gareth) Delve. I would not single anyone out. We set some standards on Monday that we would like to stick to and we did it." As for try-scorer Lesley Vainikolo, Redpath added: "I thought Les was very active as well. He was great around the players and the support they gave him. He did a lot of good things today." Gloucester could have given themselves a chance of actually topping the group if they had gone for the four-try bonus point. However captain Delve decided to ask Robinson to kick at goal instead before Molenaar's try. Redpath explained: "We did talk about that (going for the bonus point) after the Molenaar try. It was 16-3 before that and, if you lose a soft try, it is 16-10 and a totally different outlook on it. "We had to win the game first and foremost. That was the key thing."

Difficult

Biarritz's England centre Ayoola Erinle, who joined the French side last year from Leicester, said: "Some of the big guys were missing from this weekend because of injury but it is always going to be difficult playing down at Kingsholm. "It was a shame we could not start better, as we played in the last three minutes. "It is a nice position to be in (to qualify for the quarter-finals) but, with that, a few people will be hurting so we will want to put it right against Glasgow next week and secure a win."
