WATCH: VILLA'S LATE LEVELLER
VILLA 1-1 NEWCASTLE
FT: THAT'S IT! Villa have pinched a point here. Aaron
Tshibola headed an 89th-minute equaliser to deny Newcastle a victory they thought they had earned
through Tommy Elphick’s first-half own goal. Rafa Benitez will wonder how his side are not going back to the North East with all three points.
90+4: Hepburn-Murphy wins another corner for Villa off Tiote. This game has turned on its head in the last 15 minutes, but the latest corner comes to nothing.
90+3: This time the corner sails out of play.
90+2: Gestede's low shot is palmed around the post by Sels. Another corner for Villa...
90+1: Ayew's free-kick is headed away. Ayew gets the ball back and drives into the area, but his cross doesn't quite squirm through to its target.
90: We will have SIX MINUTES OF ADDED TIME. Late drama on the cards?
GOAL! VILLA 1-1 NEWCASTLE (Tshibola, 88)
AND VILLA HAVE NICKED AN EQUALISER! Ayew takes the corner and sends it to the far post where Tshibola beats Hayden to the header. It's scruffy and it bounces down and off the post, but it's in and Villa may have just pinched a point.
VILLA 0-1 NEWCASTLE
88: Shelvey beats Chester to the ball. It's ANOTHER corner for Villa...
87: Corner to Villa! Ayew plays in Bacuna and his cross is poor. It's headed behind by Clark...
86: SUB! 18-year-old Hepburn-Murphy replaces Westwood for Villa.
85; ... So close! Elphick rises unmarked to meet the corner and heads just over. he should have done better.
84: Kodjia drives down the right and wins a corner for Villa. The big men go up for it in front of the Holte End...
83: Shelvey has to be careful he doesn't get himself sent off here. He's getting stuck into tackles he doesn't need to. Remember, he's already on a booking.
WATCH: AYEW HITS THE POST
80: SUB! Gayle is withdrawn and replaced by Mitrovic.
79: Tshibola is a silly boy. He races into the area and goes down softly under a challenge from Tiote. The referee gives him a yellow for simulation and rightly so.
WATCH: VILLA DISALLOWED GOAL
78: Elphick gives the ball away and Gayle races into the box. He perhaps should pass but instead tries a shot which bounces back at him off Chester's body.
76: CHANCE! A brilliant cross from Westwood on the left touchline goes just over the head of Gestede and Ayew can't connect either. Somehow Villa are clawing their way back into this game.
74: SUB! Yedlin is going to have to be taken off here after pulling up injured off the ball. Tiote comes on to replace him.
72: OFF THE POST! SO CLOSE AGAIN FOR VILLA! A superb darting run from Ayew is capped with a brilliant swerving shot from the edge of the area and Sels' left-hand upright is still shuddering. That would have been one of the goals of the season if it had gone in.
70: That goal may not have stood, but it's seen the noise crank up inside Villa Park and the home side are enjoying their best spell of the game. Ayew's cross is headed just wide by Elphick, who perhaps should have left it for Gestede.
VILLA v NEWCASTLE ODDS
A disallowed goal for Aston Villa has at least given their fans hope they can find an equaliser and they are now 7/2 to draw and 16/1 to win. Newcastle are 2/7 favourites to hold on for all three points while it's 6/5 they triumph 1-0 and 9/2 for 2-0. Gayle is 10/1 favourite to score next while Villa's Gestede, Ayew and Kodjia are all 12/1. Click here to bet live in-play
68: NO GOAL! VILLA THOUGHT THEY WERE LEVEL! Ayew delivers a peach of a free-kick and it's headed in by Jedinak. But the linesman's flag is up and replays show it's the right decision. Jedinak was JUST beyond the last man. A warning for Newcastle...
VILLA 0-1 NEWCASTLE
67: The home fans are chanting some rude songs right now. Not sure which set of players they're directing them at. Villa have been extremely poor today.
64: GREAT CHANCE! How has Diame not scored??? Shelvey breaks on the left and when his cross is blocked he is the first to react and lays it on a plate for Diame just eight yards out with the goal at his mercy. He contrives to shoot narrowly wide. Benitez knows his team should be out of sight by now.
62: VILLA SUB! Off comes Adomah and here comes Gestede, who passed a late fitness test to be involved today.
61: A break in play as both Ayew and Yedlin receive attention following a clash of heads in the area.
60: Adomah crosses from the right and Ayew leaps to try and steer it goalwards. He's penalised for leaning on his marker. Gestede would have lapped up a chance like that.
59: It looks like Roberto Di Matteo is about to send Rudy Gestede into the mix...
57: The corner is taken by Shelvey and is worked back to him on the edge of the area. His shot is off-target, however.
56: Gouffran is away down the right and is only denied by a late sliding tackle from Bacuna. Corner to newcastle...
55: Yedlin scampers forwards and plays in Ritchie down the right. His cross is straight at Bacuna and his header is awful - straight at Yedlin in a promising position. He should be poking it in, but instead it goes over the bar.
54: Shelvey likes a long-range shot and his latest effort looks like it might be heading goalwards, but Gollini manages to paw it away.
53: It's been a scrappy opening to the second period. Newcastle don't looks a s sharp and Villa are struggling for rhythm in their new system.
50: Bacuna is now playing at full-back but scampers forward to deliver a low ball in the direction of Kodjia. Clark hacks it clear.
VILLA 0-1 NEWCASTLE
49: Boos for former Villa man Clark as he boots the ball out for a throw. Tshibola receives it but opts to play backwards instead of crossing.
48: Villa string together a few passes and Ayew crosses towards Kodjia, but Sels gathers reasonably comfortably.
47: Shelvey presents Yedlin with an early chance to cross. That was a potent attacking weapon for Newcastle in the first half.
46: SUB! Midfielder Tshibola comes on for defender Baker. It looks like Villa will revert to 4-3-3 this half with Bacuna dropping back to play at full-back.
WATCH: GREAT CHANCE FOR GAYLE
Newcastle should really have made it 2-0 when Gayle was one-on-one with the Villa goalkeeper.
WATCH: ELPHICK'S OWN GOAL
Take a look at a moment Tommy Elphick won't want to see again.
Newcastle are strong 4/11 favourites as they go into the break with a 1-0 lead while Villa are 10/1 to turn this around for a victory and 100/30 to earn a point. Gayle is 13/2 favourite to score the next goal while Yoan Gouffran is 8/1 - the same price as Villa's Jonathan Kodjia. Click here for all our odds
HT: No opposition player has scored against Aston Villa in the first half of a Championship game this season - but they don't need to when Tommy Elphick does it for you. His own goal separates the teams at the break and it's just reward for a dominant Newcastle performance. Gayle should have doubled their lead when one-on-one with Gollini and the boos from the home fans at half-time tell you what they think of what they've seen...
45+2: Villa win their first corner of the game. Ayew's cross finds Jedinak, but it harmlessly goes over the top. That's the last moment of the half as the ref blows the half-time whistle.
45+1: Last chance of the half for Villa as they win a free-kick on the right. Amavi stands over it and whips it in, straight to the head of Hayden who clears.
45: TWO ADDED MINUTES. Amavi then prompts groans from the home crowd as his cross miscues over the bar.
44: Baker goes into the book for a late tackle on Hayden. Perhaps a little harsh, it was a 50-50 challenge.
43: Jedinak's ball forward finds Kodjia who has a chance to shoot, but is flagged for offside. Replays suggest he was unfortunate.
