Fulham dominated possession for large parts of the game but could never find their way through the Rams wall. Curtis Davies in particular was superb for the home side.
Still, it's only 1-0 and as the old play-off cliche goes it's still only half-time in this tie. Onwards to the Cottage on Monday night.
DERBY 1-0 FULHAM
It was an improved performance from Slavisa Jokanovic's men in the second half, but in the end, Cameron Jerome's powerful first-half header proves to be the difference. The two sides will do battle once more on Monday evening, where the Rams take a slender lead into the second leg.
Stay tuned for a full report, highlights and reaction!
90+3: Final minute or so for Fulham to launch an effort; they continue to occupy the spaces in and around the 18-yard box but the Derby defence has been resolute this evening and they're seldom threatened.
90+1: We'll have FOUR added minutes here at Pride Park. Plenty of time to be a hero, but will anyone rise to the challenge?
90: OVER! Fredericks slings a cross into the area, but Mitrovic misjudges his jump and the chance escapes him.
SUB! Jamie Hanson replaces Andreas Weimann for the final minutes of the game.
88: SUB! Final throw of the dice for Slavisa Jokanovic as he replaces Johansen with Oliver Norwood.
86: YELLOW! Tactical foul by Bradley Johnson and the midfielder is the next player into the book.
87: SHOT! Another superb effort from Fulham skipper Cairney, but he can't quite get enough bend to take the ball inside Carson's far post!
85: Weimann slips on the counter attack but though Derby still try to capitalise, Ream gets a toe on the ball to bring it back into the custody of Bettinelli.
YELLOW! Clumsy late challenge by Johansen on Keogh and the former has his name taken by Roger East.
83: Anya is playing his part in the defensive side of things as we approach the end of the game here. Fulham are knocking on the door but they still just can't find a way through...
It's been nearly five months since Fulham last failed to score in a Championship game, but it looks like Gary Rowett and Derby have found the formula to keep them out tonight... 10 minutes plus added time for the Cottagers to change that and the complexion of this tie.
76: SUBS! The visitors make a double change as Floyd Ayite and Ryan Sessegnon are replaced by Lucas Piazon and Neeskens Kebano. Fulham have scored 22 goals in the final 15 minutes of games this season but will this pair help them add to that tally?
77: YELLOW! First yellow of the game is awarded to Weimann for dissent.
75: Lawrence whips another excellent ball into the box and Odoi throws himself at the delivery to concede another corner. The whistle blows once more as the referee spots another foul.
72: CORNER! Anya drifts out wide and picks up Huddlestone's nicely-weighted ball. He crosses but Odoi slams the ball into the crowd and concedes a corner. Keogh gets a header on the ball but referee Roger East spots an infringement and the ball returns to Bettinelli.
73: Moments later, Tom Lawrence races onto a loose ball on the right hand side and sends a cross into the box; Anya is poised to head the ball over the line but misses a connection by mere inches! That could quite easily have been game over.
70: Great knockdown from Targett as he puts the ball onto the deck for Mitrovic, but the Serbian frontman can't control the ball sufficiently and screws his makeshift effort wide of the mark.
68: SUBS! First changes for Derby as Ikechi Anya and David Nugent replace Matej Vydra and Cameron Jerome. With these fresh legs reinvigorate the Rams? Gary Rowett will certainly hope so...
Fulham pushing hard for an equaliser now but they're leaving themselves a little exposed at times to the counter-attack. They'll want a goal badly but if Derby snatch a second then it will be a long, long way back.
The Cottagers haven't really managed to get Sessegnon or Mitrovic into this game yet. Derby's defence have done a terrific job on those two and you feel like it won't be too long until Slavisa Jokanovic makes some changes.
65: SAVE! Fulham skipper Cairney capitalises on a loss of possession from Derby to strike goalwards. It's a stinging effort but Carson expertly turns the ball round the post! Superb strike, that.
63: Bettinelli comes miles out of his area to clear and almost collides with Odoi. The former England U21 stopper is fortunate to get the touch he does as Jerome was waiting to pounce just yards away.
60: With an hour gone it's still the Rams with a slender advantage, but as we've seen in the last 10 minutes or so, things can change in a heartbeat. Are we about to see some changes in personnel from either side?
56: CHANCE! Great spot from Johansen as Ayite gets ahead of his marker and sidefoots his team-mate's pass over the bar! The chances are beginning to manifest...
At the other end, Fredericks avoids contact on Weimann as the Derby man hits a speculative scooped effort from the byline. Who is going to strike next?!
54: OFF THE BAR! That's how quickly things can change in this game! Mitrovic holds the ball up and Kevin McDonald thunders a first-time effort onto the crossbar!
52: OVER! We've not seen a lot of Ryan Sessegnon this evening, but he's just struck another effort with his unfavoured right foot over the bar. Not the kind of chances we're used to seeing him put away, but it's a chance nonetheless.
49: Huge mix-up in the Fulham defence as Marcus Bettinelli slips attempting to clear the ball. The ball drops into the 18-yard box but thankfully for Fulham, Jerome is nowhere to be seen. They look nervous this evening...
SECOND HALF! DERBY 1-0 FULHAM
We're back underway at Pride Park!
First legs of play-off semi-finals can often be tense and tight affairs. That half was anything but, both sides are looking to win this game and it's Derby who have the edge in the tie. Fulham have a bit of work to do here, but there's a long way to go in this tie yet.

Sky Bet's Derby v Fulham Price Boosts...
We're a quarter of the way through this play-off semi-final and, thanks to Cameron Jerome's goal, it's Gary Rowett's Derby who are firmly in the driving seat. Fulham started well but tailed off at the half progressed and they have left plenty to be desired.
This tie is far from over, but the Whites will need to move up a gear if they want to get anything from this evening's game. The Rams, meanwhile, have got their tactics spot on.
Plenty of action still to come - we're back underway in less than 15 minutes' time!
45+1: We'll have just ONE minute of added time at the end of this first half at Pride Park.
43: Derby still look threatening whenever they move into Fulham's half and the roar that subsequently echoes from the stands is deafening at times.
39: SAVE! Powerful strike from Mitrovic on the turn and Carson spills the initial effort before claiming at the second attempt. He's not had much of the ball whatsoever so far...
Cameron Jerome had looked like he'd forgotten how to score goals earlier this season, but he's hit form at just the right time. Targett simply couldn't deal with his power in the air there at the far post.
GOAL! DERBY 1-0 FULHAM (Jerome, 34)
Derby have looked menacing on the attack and they've just taken the lead in this one thanks to a superbly worked move finished off by Cameron Jerome! The delivery from Forysth on the left flank is just inch-perfect - it's a mismatch between Jerome and his marker Matt Targett and the former Norwich frontman powers a header past Marcus Bettinelli!
DERBY 0-0 FULHAM
31: "Derby haven't won at Craven Cottage in league action since 1969," co-commentator Don Goodman reminds us. Will tonight's result leave it finely balanced for the Rams to change that on Monday?
30: CHANCE! Ream gets the wrong side of Lawrence and allows the Derby man to breach the Fulham backline, but a vital intervention from Odoi prevents Jerome taking advantage of the mistake.
28: SAVE! Fulham find a way through as Targett hits a low ball through a crowd and Carson gets his first touch on the ball to make the save. It's a difficult one to make, but the former England man gets down low to hold on, moments before Ayite nods a close range header wide.
LIVE SKY BET PRICE BOOST
Back Aleksandar Mitrovic to open the scoring as a live Sky Bet Price Boost at odds enhanced from 9/2 to 11/2!
22: There's a noticeable contrast in the way these teams are approaching the game, with Fulham happy to take their time, sweep the ball around the pitch and try to create a meaningful effort. Derby, meanwhile, are standing strong and picking off their opponents in the final third and counter-attacking at rapid pace.
18: Nervy times for Fulham here and there's plenty of last-ditch defending as Vydra, Johnson and Lawrence all aim deliveries into the area. Jokanovic's men hold firm, for the time being.
Fulham started this game firmly on top but the pendulum has swung towards Derby in the last few minutes. The home fans have responded in kind as well and the volume inside Pride Park has ratcheted up a notch.
No clear chances for either side yet though.
15: FREE-KICK! Needless barge from Odoi on Lawrence and the Rams have a free-kick in a dangerous area a few yards outside of the area. Lawrence swings the ball in from the left but a strong punch from Bettinelli clears the danger.
13: CHANCE! There's some confusion between some Fulham players in trying to dispossess Lawrence but he escapes with the ball and counters at speed! He looks for Jerome to his right but the pass is weak and though the striker tries to round Bettinelli, he fails in his attempt and the Whites have a goal-kick.
11: Considering they fell to defeat against Birmingham on Sunday, Fulham look confident here this evening. There's plenty of dominance on the ball, but will they be able to capture the form that catapulted them into the play-offs?
8: Very intelligent ball from Weimann as he spots the run of Jerome on the left but thr frontman is flagged offside before he can advance. That's a little bit of a let-off for Fulham; Bettinelli was in no man's land and replays show Jerome was far from offside...
6: FREE-KICK! Ayite and Johansen stand over a free-kick on the left hand side. Targett and Ayite try to cleverly work the ball into the 18-yard box, but the Rams are alert and lump the ball clear.
