England lost in Germany for the second time in three days as Aidy Boothroyd's Young Lions were beaten 1-0 in a friendly on Friday night.

Taking charge of his first game after gaining control of the Under-21s on a permanent basis, Boothroyd's side lost to an effort by Hoffenheim youngster Nadiem Amiri midway through the first half.

The result and performance were disappointing for England, who were playing one of their final preparation games ahead of this summer's European U21 Championship in Poland.

England started well but soon enough it was the Germans who took control of proceedings. And they had the lead after 23 minutes through Amiri, who fired home from the edge of the area after some good build-up play.

Germany continued to dominate. with Max Arnold in particular looking a class apart from the rest in midfield, although clear-cut chances were few and far between for either side for the rest of the half.

England continued to labour in the second half but had a golden opportunity to level on 74 minutes as the ball fell perfectly for Jack Stephens to give him a clear sight of goal from 12 yards, but he could only scuff his effort into the arms of the goalkeeper.

And that was it for Boothroyd's side, who next travel to Denmark for another friendly on Monday night.
