WATCH: HUDDERSFIELD 1-0 ASTON VILLA
HUDDERSFIELD 1-0 ASTON VILLA
FT: Lansbury tries a speculative effort from 30 yards out.. it flies over and there's the full-time whistle!
Tommy Smith's drilled effort is enough to hand Huddersfield all three points at the John Smith's Stadium. It was a dire second half but Huddersfield fans won't care! Simply cannot recall a Villa shot on target in the second half, while Lansbury went closest before the break with an effort that cannoned off the bar.
90+4: Villa pumping the ball into the box now. Baker is up but still no chances of note this half... Just a minute left for Huddersfield to see out.
HUDDERSFIELD 1-0 ASTON VILLA
90+2: Nothing really happening for the visitors... Just three minutes to find a leveller.
90: JUST OVER! Wells spots Johnstone off his line and tries his luck from 30 yards out but the effort whistles narrowly over...
There will be at least FIVE minutes added on, not quite sure how?!
89: Now Quaner goes off for the hosts in response to Villa's change. On comes Philip Billing.
87: Bruce looking for all-out attack now and Neil Taylor goes off for Corey Taylor. They haven't got long left to salvage something...
85: NO PENALTY AND YELLOW FOR DIVING! That's a lot to cap up and embolden I know... but it tells the whole picture. Kodjia goes down inside the Huddersfield box in search of a penalty but instead it's a booking for simulation.
84: Baker brings down Wells just outside the box and the cries of 'Off Off Off' are not answered and it's just a yellow for the Villa man. Mooy looks to cross one in but Villa eventually deal with it.
Another sub for the hosts as Van La Parra goes off and Martin Cranie on.
81: Time for a Villa change, and it's Amavi who goes off with 19-year-old Keinan Davis taking his place.
79: Free-kick is played deep to Jedinak who plays the ball first time into the box. Out comes Johnstone to punch clear but the flag is up anyway for offside.
Can his side find an equaliser?
75: OVER! It's a decent chance for Chester from a free-kick but his header is barely a yard over following Lansbury's decent ball in.
72: 'E-I-E-I-E-I-O Up the football league we go!' Huddersfield fans in a boisterous mood now. As it stands they'll keep pace with Brighton, while Newcastle are still drawing 0-0 at Reading...
GOAL! HUDDERSFIELD 1-0 ASTON VILLA (Smith, 69)
The deadlock has been broken and it's captain Tommy Smith!
Huddersfield win a corner and Mooy plays it low to Smith on the edge of the area - he brings it forward with a couple of touches and strikes it across goal and into the far corner with Johnstone rooted to the spot. Vital goal for the Terriers! Can they hold on?
HUDDERSFIELD 0-0 ASTON VILLA
68: First sub of the match and it's Huddersfield who make the change, on comes Nakhi Wells for Isaiah Brown.
66: BOOKING! Another yellow now and this time it's for Mooy, more for an accumulation of challenges it would seem - most recently for a foul on Lansbury.
64: YELLOW! It's a booking for Villa left-back Taylor, who goes in late on Kachunga in the Huddersfield half.
62: An incredibly scrappy last five minutes or so. All happening in the middle third and barely five passes being strung together before the opposition go on to retrieve it. Surely a few chances just around the corner...
HUDDERSFIELD 0-0 ASTON VILLA
60: We hit the hour-mark at Huddersfield and still nothing between the sides. One of those games where it just needs one mistake or moment of magic...
Some great battles all over the pitch this evening.
56: All pretty scrappy out there but the noise levels rise at the John Smith's Stadium - the Terriers know they need a win to keep the pressure on Brighton in second, who are currently 1-0 up at Rotherham.
53: WIDE! Villa burst on the counter attack and Kodjia cuts inside before bending an effort wide of the far post. The only sniff Villa have had in the opening eight minutes this half.
Hear me roar.
49: All Huddersfield in the opening few minutes of the half but Villa standing firm in defence so far. Mooy leading the little one and two-touch moves but nothing cutting as of yet.
47: Blistering start to the half from the hosts and within 10 second or so Brown is there to whip in a dangerous ball but Baker stoops low to head away.
KICK-OFF! Half-time pie? Or you feeling healthy? Either way, we're back underway in the second half!
Town are now 11/8 to win the match with Sky Bet, while Villa are 7/2 and the draw 5/4. It's 9/4 the game finishes 0-0, while a 1-0 win for the Terriers is 100/30 and for Villa 6/1 - get the latest in-play odds here!
HT: And there's the half-time whistle. Fairly even half with Lansbury going closest, but his volley crashed off the bar and it remains goalless!
45: Just the one minute of time added on in the first half...
44: Long ball over the top hands Lowe some space out wide for Huddersfield, but his cross is a poor one and it's straight at Johnstone who catches under no pressure.
42: Corner to Villa... But Hourihane's ball is headed out for another one...
This time it's a good ball in and Kodjia puts Coleman under some pressure and the Huddersfield 'keeper spills it. The referee blows up for a foul which is generous but the keepers always seem to get them.
39: OVER! Speculative effort from Huddersfield captain Smith, as he brings down a Villa clearance with one touch before volleying with the second. It doesn't trouble Johnstone in the Villa goal.
37: OFF THE BAR! What a strike this is from Lansbury - but it cannons off the bar from 15 yards out!
It was great play initially from Kodjia who somehow turned three defenders and darted into the box... The interception then fell to Lansbury - who volleyed an effort against the upright.
35: CHANCE! Great passing move from the hosts and the ball is with Van La Parra out on the left - he jinks inside but then sees his effort blocked.
33: Slightly quiet period of play - scrappy at times too with both sides failing to hold onto possession. Not much between the sides at all so far.
29: BOOKING! Another yellow and this time it's for Villa midfielder Jedinak after he tripped up Brown. Cries for handball then come with Van La Parra looking to burst into the box but nothing given - was outside the area anyway.
27: YELLOW! Incidentally Lowe talked himself into the book after appealing for a foul in the buld-up to that golden opportunity for Hourihane.
26: Bree and Adomah link up well down the right and the latter goes down under minimal pressure near the linesman - who is having none of it and points for the goal-kick.
OVER! What a chance for Hourihane! Lansbury plays it into the middle for Kodjia, who then sets up Hourihane but he skies his effort from 10 yards out. Needed to show more composure there.
23: CHANCES! Decent spell for Huddersfield and first it's Kachunga who puts in a wicked low cross but Baker manages to get a toe on it to clear - it falls to Mooy on the edge of the area but Lansbury does well to rush out and block the shot.
21: That clears that up then - Villa's totally straight-down-the-line Twitter team have gone for a 'clever' free-kick. Fair enough.
20: OVER! Not entirely sure this was planned from Hourihane and Lansbury... They both stand over the free-kick and appear to dummy it for one another - whether a ploy to put off Huddersfield or a genuine error I'm not too sure... but eventually the ball does come in and it falls to Baker beyond the back-post but his effort is well over.
18: Lansbury's corner is headed away and the ball finds its way back with Johnstone. Hoof forward and now Kodjia is down and taking his time to get back to his feet, but earns Villa a free-kick in the process.
16: Bree down the right for Villa, sends in a good cross but Hefele is there to rise above Kodjia and clear the danger. But now Villa have a corner...
14: Great noise so far at the John Smith's Stadium. Boisterous home crowd and the travelling Villa fans are in good voice too. Still awaiting the first goal...
12: Villa have started to look brighter after Huddersfield's early spell. Lansbury links up well with Hourihane and then Kodjia is fouled by Hefele to bring up a Villa free-kick just over 30 yards out...
Lansbury's ball into the box is wasteful though and it bounces out for a goal-kick with Baker chasing after it.
10: SAVE! Down the other end Adomah wins a corner for Villa. The cross eventually falls to Bree on the edge of the box and his initial shot is blocked but he latches onto the rebound and sidefoots an effort towards the bottom corner but Coleman gets down well to parry it away.
8: CHANCE! Corner is played low for Mooy but he completely fluffs his effort from 15 yards out. Was a nice routine which completely caught Villa out.
6: All Huddersfield in the opening minutes here and Hogg earns the hosts a corner...
