Ross McCormack is close to agreeing an improved extended contract at Fulham, Sky sources understand.

The 29-year-old striker has been heavily linked with a move to Middlesbrough this transfer window and did not play in Fulham's last league fixture - a 1-0 home defeat to Hull.

The former Cardiff and Leeds forward handed in a transfer request earlier this week which was rejected by Fulham.

McCormack, who has 17 goals in 31 appearances for Fulham this season, only recently signed a new contract in the summer committing his future to the London club until 2019.

However, Sky sources understand that a new improved deal has now been offered in order to keep the striker at Craven Cottage.

Middlesbrough could also renew their interest in McCormack, though, after their bid to sign Jordan Rhodes from Blackburn fell through.

Fulham manager Slavisa Jokanovic insisted earlier this week that he was under no pressure to sell his best players.

"There is always speculation about [Moussa] Dembele and McCormack, but people need to understand Fulham too," Jokanovic said.

"If they are serious people they see we do not need money right now, we need other things, and we are not in a situation where we have to sell our best players."
