Anthony Martial on the mend after head injury suffered at Watford

Anthony Martial has revealed he is feeling better after being substituted during the 3-1 defeat at Watford following a head injury.

The 20-year-old was involved in an accidental clash of heads with Daryl Janmaat during the first half and initially tried to play on.

But he was substituted after Watford's first goal when he had been dispossessed in the build-up following a double challenge from Janmaat and Miguel Britos.

He told social media on Tuesday: "Feel much better today. Thanks for all your support and your messages."

Asked about Martial's well-being after the defeat at Vicarage Road, Jose Mourinho said: "I didn't know why he came off, whether he was injured in his knee, his ankle or his head.

"I don't know. I just know, in that moment, he is not in a condition to carry on. I don't know why. I just know I had to change. I don't know yet what happened."

Martial is not expected to feature against Northampton in the Sky Live EFL Cup match on Wednesday and Mourinho is reported to be ready to rest a number of senior players with Paul Pogba, Eric Bailly and David de Gea expected to be given a night off.
