Scotland captain Darren Fletcher is available for Tuesday's World Cup Group F Qualifier against Slovakia, according to Sky sources.

The West Bromwich Albion midfielder was rated a major doubt for the match at the Anton Malatinsky City Arena in Trnava, after a dead leg forced him to leave the field at half time of the Scots 1-1 draw with Lithuania last weekend.

Speaking after the tie, the 32-year-old said: "It's too early to tell if I'll be ready for midweek. I'll have loads of ice on it, but dead legs are the worst in the first few days so we'll see how it goes."

Scotland boss Gordon Strachan has promised changes to his side after the dropped points at Hampden saw them slip two points behind group leaders England, who maintained their 100 per cent start to the campaign with a 2-0 home win over Malta.

Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths, a late substitute on Saturday, is expected to lead the line while Crystal Palace midfielder James McArthur, who came off the bench to grab the late equaliser against the Lithuanians, could be on from the start.

Scotland are looking for a fourth away win in five matches against a side who have failed to take a point from the opening two matches of qualifying for the finals in Russia in 2018.

Despite their position at the foot of the group, alongside Malta, Fletcher insists Scotland will have to be at their best to take anything from the match.

"They have a lot of quality and you cannot underestimate them because of the position they are in," he said. "They are under pressure, but they are the second seeds in the group.

"They have quality players and they will be looking to rectify their situation quickly. It will be a very tight game but hopefully one where we can find a way of taking the three points. We are still right in this group and there is a long way to go."
