Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho expected more penetration in attack from world-record signing Paul Pogba during the goalless draw with Liverpool.
Goalkeeper David de Gea made two critical saves from Emre Can and Philippe Coutinho to earn a point for Mourinho's side on Monday Night Football.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic squandered United's best opportunity when he miscued a second-half header as the visitors were restricted to just one shot on target over the 90 minutes.
Ibrahimovic's chance came from a Pogba cross, but the Frenchman, who was supporting the Swede in attack, was largely on the periphery at Anfield and Mourinho admitted he was hoping for more going forward.
"Had it been 1-0, it would have been finished," Mourinho told Sky Sports. "Where Pogba was playing, I was expecting more penetration.
"Defensively we did really well, we should have had a little bit more. We had a big chance that I thought Zlatan was going to score."
Mourinho also defended his tactics despite being held to just 35 per cent possession - the lowest registered by United in the Premier League since Opta started recording the statistic.
"The result I think is acceptable. We wanted more," he said.
"For long periods in the game, we thought that could be possible but we didn't score and if you don't score you don't win but I think it was a very positive performance.
"Last season United won here. Liverpool had 14 shots on target and United had one," said the Portuguese.
"How many shots on target did Liverpool have on target? Two (official statistics recorded three).
"Two shots on target with 65 per cent of possession. You have to be critical of Liverpool. It is their problem, not our problem."
