Danny Ings and Mamadou Sakho featured for a strong Liverpool U23 side that drew 1-1 with Manchester United on Tuesday night.
Ings, who has played just 30 minutes of first-team football this season, and Sakho, sent home from the club's pre-season tour for disciplinary reasons, lined up alongside summer signing Marko Grujic as the second-string rivals met just 24 hours after their first-team counterparts.
Ings had nodded an early chance onto the post at Leigh Sports Village, before United's Matthew Willock seized on a mistake to curl narrowly wide of Kamil Grabara's left-hand post.
But Liverpool took a deserved lead midway through the first half when captain Harry Wilson turned in Pedro Chirivella's shot with a neat flick.
Ilori and Devonte Redmond had chances to double the advantage but Josh Harrop restored parity for United shortly after the restart when a mis-timed Chirivella challenge saw the referee point to the spot.
Kevin Stewart saw an effort fly just wide as the Reds sought to reassert their dominance and miscued another late chance from a Sakho knockdown.
Ings spurned another headed chance and was denied again by United keeper Sam Johnstone deep into stoppage time as Liverpool, like Jurgen Klopp's men against Jose Mourinho's, had to settle for a point.
