Liverpool striker Danny Ings has returned to the club's Melwood training ground to begin rehabilitation on a knee injury that has brought a premature end to his season.

The 24-year-old has undergone surgery on a knee problem for the second time in just over a year, although the latest injury is not related to the one which kept him out from mid-October until the last game of the 2015/16 campaign.

Emre Can says he and his Liverpool team-mates feel sorry for Ings after the striker suffered another knee injury

Ings is expected to be on the sidelines for seven to nine months having had surgery to repair damaged cartilage in London last week.

"We will give him all the time he needs and then he will be back again and will be a Liverpool player, 100 per cent," Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said on Friday.

"Everything will be good at the end but now it's time to work on the comeback."

Ings moved to Anfield from Burnley in 2015 but his injury concerns have restricted him to just 11 games for Liverpool, during which he has scored four goals.
