The Daily Mail’s Ian Ladyman believes that Steven Gerrard should not take a role at Liverpool and instead begin his coaching career elsewhere

Steven Gerrard should begin his post-playing career away from Liverpool, says Daily Mail football editor Ian Ladyman.

The former England and Reds captain announced his retirement from football earlier this week, although he also said that he has not decided what his next move will be after leaving MLS side LA Galaxy.

However, he did confirm that he had been interviewed for the vacant MK Dons managerial position but it came 'too soon' for him, with some sort of coaching role rumoured as a possible option.

Liverpool seems like the presumed destination with Gerrard's history with the club, although Ladyman thinks he should try his hand at coaching outside of the Merseyside 'bubble' and test himself elsewhere.

Appearing on Sunday Supplement, the Daily Mail man does believe he will one day end up at Anfield, but could find another club more useful to his progress now his playing career have come to an end.
