Shanghai Shenhua manager Gus Poyet says it would be a "pleasure" to sign Boca Juniors striker Carlos Tevez.
Tevez, 32, re-joined Boca from Juventus in the summer of 2015 and has scored two goals in nine Primera Division appearances for the club so far this season.
And Poyet has admitted he would like to bring the former Manchester United and Manchester City player to the Far East.
"There's nothing to confirm," Poyet told ESPN. "Obviously there is interest from the club in signing him and it's being negotiated.
"It would be a pleasure to have him."
Shanghai president Wu Xiaohui revealed at the start of the week that he was in discussions to bring Tevez to the Chinese Super League on a reported €40m-per-year deal.
"We have done a lot of work [on trying to sign Tevez]," Xiaohui was quoted as saying in the Sun. "And it's safe to say that there has been a definite breakthrough in the negotiations.
"But for a variety of reasons, we have not nailed down the deal. Their club have problems that are still yet to be solved and I will spare you the details.
"We will continue to put greater effort into this and strive to give our supporters a pleasant surprise as early as possible."
The Argentina international is contracted to Boca until the end of June 2018.
