West Brom head coach Tony Pulis confirms Birmingham have made an approach for midfielder Craig Gardner

Birmingham have made an approach to sign Craig Gardner from West Brom, their manager Tony Pulis has revealed.

The 30-year-old midfielder played for the Blues for 18 months from January 2010 to the summer of 2011, joining Sunderland when Birmingham were relegated from the Premier League.

Gardner has struggled to break into Pulis' first-team this season as the Baggies have established themselves in the top half of the Premier League.

The West Brom boss confirmed: "Birmingham have come in for Gards. They're interested in taking Craig.

"Negotiations are underway. I am not sure what it's going to be at the moment. I'm not that keen on getting rid of Gards. He's a great professional and he's really good in the dressing room.

"That's ongoing. We'll see what happens there. We have to make sure that, if we do a deal, it has to be right for the club and for Craig."

The Solihull-born player has only made two Premier League starts this season and seven more appearances off the bench.
