Rotherham United have had an offer of £850,000 for striker Omar Bogle rejected by Grimsby, according to Sky sources.
Bogle is the leading scorer in Sky Bet League Two, having scored 18 times on the Blundell Park side's return to the Sky Bet EFL, helping his team to 10th place.
That has attracted the attentions of a number of Championship clubs and Rotherham are the first to make a move as they look to lift themselves off the bottom of the division.
He is also being watched by Brentford, who have identified him as a potential replacement for in-form attacker Scott Hogan should he leave this month.
Having played at youth level for West Brom, Birmingham and Celtic, Bogle joined Grimsby in the summer of 2015 from Conference North outfit Solihull Motors and scored 16 times last season.
After already eclipsing that total this term, the Cleethorpes side may now face a fight to hang on to the 24-year-old.
Bogle is highly thought of at Grimsby after scoring twice at Wembley for them last season in the National League play-off final against Forest Green Rovers.
His double took the club back up into the EFL after a six-year absence and Bogle has since won two Player of the Month prizes this season.
