Claude Puel is confident his relationship with Riyad Mahrez remains strong.

Leicester boss Claude Puel has called on Riyad Mahrez to show greater consistency after the Algerian was unhappy at being substituted against West Ham last weekend.

Puel decided to replace the influential Mahrez midway through the half and the 26-year-old's frustration was visible as he exited the pitch during the 1-1 draw on Friday night.

The pair have since cleared the air at training and Puel does not expect the issue to linger between himself and the former Premier League Player of the Year.

"We spoke at training - it is not a problem," Puel said. "Riyad was a little frustrated in the second half without the possibility to touch more balls. That is a good thing, when a player is not happy.

"But now it is important to help him to have more consistency [during] the game because he is a valuable player for us.

"If he can show this game after game it will be fantastic for him and for the squad. I'm sure he will show his quality for the next game."

"They are a great team. We are playing against a strong team with good character and great quality. In every position, they have great players," Puel continued.

"We must try to play our own game and it will be good to see our progress under pressure against a good opponent. It's a good challenge for us."
