Nile Ranger has had his contract terminated by Southend because of reoccurring disciplinary issues.

The Sky Bet League One side claim the disciplinary issues included timekeeping and the former Newcastle, Sheffield Wednesday and Blackpool forward was in breach of the terms of his contract.

Southend said in statement: "Following a meeting yesterday with Nile Ranger, the club has today (Thursday) terminated the player's contract in accordance with the terms of the agreement.

"This decision was taken following reoccurring disciplinary issues, including timekeeping, which undermine both the unity of the group and the management.

The futures of Eden Hazard, Thibaut Courtois and Alexis Sanchez were discussed by the Transfer Talk panel.

"In many ways it is regrettable having worked closely with Nile over the past 18 months. However, the interests of the club are paramount and the Board will never allow those objectives to be undermined."

Ranger joined Southend on a free transfer in August 2016 following his release from Blackpool and scored 10 goals in 49 appearances.
