Getafe goalkeeper Vicente Guaita has passed a medical at Crystal Palace and could join the club this month rather than the summer, according to Sky Sports Spanish Football expert Guillem Balague.
The 31-year-old is out of contract at the end of this season and has agreed to sign for Palace as a free agent ahead of the 2018/19 campaign.
But it is understood his current contract contains a £3.5m release clause and Palace are considering activating the clause before the close of the transfer window, with manager Roy Hodgson keen to bolster his goalkeeping options.
"Getafe know about the deal and now they have a decision to make," Balague said.
"Do they let him go for free at the end of the season? Or do they let him go for £3.5m? Guiata is a top goalkeeper."
Guaita, who previously attracted interest from Watford, has kept five clean sheets in 18 matches for Getafe this season.
Palace have already signed Swedish midfielder Erdal Rakip on loan from Benfica for the rest of the season as well as Poland defender Jaroslaw Jach from Zaglebie Lubin on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
