MK Dons boss Dan Micciche has confirmed that free agent Nigel Reo-Coker is training with the club.
The 33-year-old could link-up again with his former team-mate Dean Lewington if the Dons can strike a deal to sign Reo-Coker.
Lewington has been working with the MK Dons as a player-coach under the new boss Micciche, and Sky Sports News understand Reo-Coker could fill a similarly senior role.
MK Dons are currently in Sky Bet League One's bottom three and Reo-Coker is seen as an experienced figure whose leadership qualities can help Micciche's young team.
Micciche, speaking after their draw with Rochdale on Wednesday night, told Sky Sports News: "We had Nigel in to train with us yesterday. He's a smashing lad.
"He's got fantastic experience and we'll how things develop in the next week or so. He's been a captain at three Premier League clubs and his experience is there for all to see."
Reo-Coker, who came close to joining La Liga side Granada last season, has been waiting for the right opportunity after returning to England following spells in the MLS and Norway.
He spent three years with West Ham and four years with Aston Villa in the Premier League before joining Bolton and then Ipswich.
