Watford close in on deal to sign Ben Wilmot from Stevenage

Watford are closing in on the signing of promising youngster Ben Wilmot from Stevenage, Sky Sports News understands.

The 18-year-old defender did not play against Newport on Saturday because of the ongoing transfer negotiations.

Sky Sports News understand a fee is yet to be agreed, but talks between the clubs have been positive.

Wilmot has featured 10 times for Stevenage in the Sky Bet League Two this season.

Chairman Phil Wallace confirmed over the weekend that a number of Premier League and Championship clubs were interested in the England U19 international.

Several national newspapers have claimed clubs such as Arsenal and Tottenham have previously scouted Wilmot.
