Claude Puel calls for perspective despite Leicester's recent poor form

Claude Puel has called for Leicester fans to have some perspective as the club closes in on a mid-table finish, despite a worrying down turn of form on the pitch.

The Frenchman has come under fire as the Foxes have been without a win in their last five games.

Puel was jeered by sections of the King Power Stadium in Leicester's recent fixture after strugglers West Ham took a 2-0 victory.

The 56-year-old took over mid-season following the departure of Craig Shakespeare, helping the King Power club to climb back up the table and ensure their Premier League safety.

The final weeks of the season, however, have seen the Foxes dwindle in performance, with Puel suggesting a lack of motivation is the reason.

Despite this, Puel believes fans must have a sense of perspective as the club are on course for a respectable finish.

"I'm as frustrated as they [fans] are but we need perspective because we are going to finish mid-table and I think a lot of teams would like to finish in our position.

"I'm looking forward to having a full pre-season and having the chance to strengthen our squad for the next season, it's important.

"I finished 8th in the table last season with the [FA] final cup and in the mid-table 9th or 10th, perhaps 8th [placed finish] I hope this season, without the possibility of working with a pre-season or without making anything in the transfer window.

"If we finish mid-table it's not bad because it was a tough season, difficulties at the beginning and difficulties to finish the season also."

When asked whether he was concerned for his position at the helm of Leicester, Puel admitted he remains open about the situation.

"I am pragmatic about this. If it is possible to work, build something and have a perspective. If it's not possible it's not my concern. I always try to have integrity in my work and give my best, develop players and the squad and the club."

Next up for Puel and the Foxes comes the challenge of Arsenal, as boss Arsene Wenger prepares to bow out on a high.

Vicente Iborra will be assessed before the Wednesday night fixture to determine whether he can play a part, while Puel has also revealed he is unsure on the fitness of Wilfred Ndidi, Daniel Amartey and goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel. Mark Albrighton is set to miss out through suspension.
