As Neil Warnock signs Paddy Kenny for the fifth time, we look back at the managers and players who can't be kept apart.

Rotherham manager Warnock has put faith in his trusted former Republic of Ireland goalkeeper yet again, having previously signed him for Bury (1998), Sheffield United (2002), QPR (2010) and Leeds (2012).

But Warnock, whose side sit third-bottom of the Championship and five points from safety, isn't the only boss to delve back into his shortlist to bring back a favourite to save the day...

Harry Redknapp - Jermain Defoe, Peter Crouch and Niko Kranjcar (played under Redknapp three times each)

Striker Defoe moved onto West Ham's books from Charlton in 1999 when Redknapp was in charge at Upton Park, before being sent on loan to the manager's former side Bournemouth, where he scored 19 goals in 31 games.

"Nothing knocks him, he's a typical goal-scorer," said Redknapp at the time, and he wasn't lying. He gave him his West Ham debut in 2000, and signed him again for Portsmouth in January 2008, and then exactly a year later for Tottenham, where he scored 76 goals in 182 games.

Crouch was sold to Aston Villa by Redknapp just days after he arrived at Portsmouth in March 2002, but the pair were re-united at Southampton two years later when Redknapp took over at St Mary's.

As Redknapp left Pompey for Spurs in October 2008, Crouch was not far behind him nine months later, turning up at White Hart Lane for £10m.

In August 2006, the season after Harry performed his 'Houdini' act by keeping Portsmouth in the Premier League, Kranjcar was signed from Hajduk Split, spending three fruitful years at Fratton Park before Redknapp raided the south coast side again for his services with Spurs in 2009.

When QPR boss in 2013, Redknapp signed the Croatian midfielder for their Championship push, secured with a play-off final win over Derby, which Kranjcar played 33 minutes in before going off with injury.

Jose Mourinho - Ricardo Carvalho (three times)

When Mourinho arrived at Porto in 2002, Carvalho quickly became a key member of what was to become the most successful two-year period in the club's history.

They won the UEFA Cup in 2003, the Champions League a year later, and two Portuguese titles to boot, before following Mourinho to Chelsea for the 2004/05 season.

The defender stayed at Stamford Bridge long after Mourinho's sacking in 2007, but was reunited with his compatriot at Real Madrid in 2010, where he played 77 times in three seasons.

Brian Clough - John McGovern (four times)

Clough brought midfielder McGovern to Derby in 1968 having managed him at Hartlepool between 1965 and 1967, and the Scot was an integral part of the Rams side that won the Second Division title in 1969 and then the top flight in 1972.

McGovern then followed Clough to Elland Road in 1974 for the manager's ill-fated two-month spell, but was soon on the road with him again as Clough departed Leeds for Nottingham Forest in 1975.

They spent seven-and-a-half seasons together at the City Ground between 1975 and 1982, winning the First Division, two League Cups and those famous back-to-back European Cup crowns in 1979 and 1980, captaining the side throughout the period of success.

Paul Sturrock - Blair Sturrock (four times)

You may have already guessed the connection. Blair Sturrock was at the same club as his father Paul four times during his career, first as a trainee with Dundee United between 1998 and 2001.

He then followed Paul to Plymouth in 2001, where he made 64 appearances, and then again to Swindon in 2006, and finally Southend in 2010.

Peter Taylor - Junior Lewis (six times and two coaching roles)

Serial re-signer Taylor managed midfielder Lewis an incredible six times throughout his career, at Dover Athletic, Gillingham, Leicester City, Brighton, Hull City and Stevenage Borough, making a handful of appearances for each.

"He trusted me to keep things ticking over," Lewis told FourFourTwo last year. "I fitted his philosophy, and he brought the best out in me."

Their double act went beyond that... they then worked together as coaches at Wycombe Wanderers and Bradford City.
