Manchester United have denied a report in France that officials from the club held a meeting with the outgoing Bayern Munich head coach Pep Guardiola.

French newspaper L'Equipe claims the meeting took place in Paris last week, but Sky Sports News HQ have spoken to Manchester United who claim the story is not true.

Guardiola will leave Bayern at the end of the season and says he has had several offers from Premier League clubs but that 'nothing was fixed'.

Manchester City are favourites to recruit the former Barcelona boss, who has also been reportedly linked with Chelsea and Manchester United.

Sky Sports Spanish football expert Guillem Balague has also quashed the rumours of Guardiola meeting Old Trafford chiefs - and once again claimed an agreement with City was done.

He tweeted: "On Pep and United. It is false they have met in Paris. As a friend just told me, why would United meet the next City manager?

"So not true Pep met United. He has agreed to join City but hasn't signed yet. That'll happen when Bayern-City is not possible in the CL."

Pep Guardiola apologised to Premier League managers for announcing his desire to manage in England

Former Bayern Munich and Fulham Manager Felix Magath knows how difficult the transition from Bundesliga to the Premier League can be, and has warned Guardiola to expect a very different style of football if he comes to manage in England's top-flight.

He said: "It's much more intensive than in Spain in Germany so he will be faced with the problem that the opponent will attack very aggressively in midfield so I'm very keen to see how he will manage this in England."
