Crystal Palace remain in talks with Sunderland over a potential deal for Patrick van Aanholt, according to Sky sources.

It is understood that the Black Cats value the player at close to £12m and we are told that Sunderland need to sell before they can buy.

Van Aanholt was a key figure for Sam Allardyce as he guided Sunderland to Premier League safety last season and the former England boss is keen to work with the full-back again.

The 26-year-old started his career at Chelsea but was sent out on loan to five different clubs before agreeing a permanent switch to the Stadium of Light in 2014.

It is also understood that Christopher Samba is on trial at Selhurst Park following the termination of his contract at Panathinaikos.
