Juan Mata is certain some of his Manchester United team-mates will join him in publicly pledging part of their salary to the Common Goal charity.

Mata fronted the launch of the charity last month, donating one per cent of his salary to the cause, and the Berlin-based organisation revealed on Tuesday that 12 more players had followed suit.

So far only one more - Germany and Bayern Munich defender Mats Hummels - has gone public with his donation.

But Mata says he has persuaded other United players to take part in the initiative and also expects manager Jose Mourinho to follow suit.

Speaking at the Soccerex Global Convention in Manchester, Mata said: "The response has been good at United. United pledges? They will. Jose? He will. I am almost ready to say who.

"We have more players coming and everyone understands what we are trying to do.

"Everyone understands we are in a lucky position, we are privileged and many others are not so lucky. We are going to try and reach every footballer.

"My one per cent cannot help a lot but everyone together can help much more and that is what we are trying to do.

"The final idea would be for the whole professional industry commit, not just the footballers. I think it will get bigger in the next few weeks and months.

"Sometimes football can have a bad reputation but there are great people in football who are trying to help.

"I believe there are great values in football and, if this helps on that, then great."
