Wayne Rooney has had the "perfect" career in England, says his former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho.
The former England captain looks set to play his last game in the Premier League this Sunday - with a £12m move to MLS side DC United agreed in principle.
Rooney, 32, returned to Everton last summer following a trophy-laden 13-year spell at Manchester United.
"When he made it at boyhood club Everton the world was surprised with that kid," said Mourinho. "Then he goes to Manchester United and has the incredible career he had.
"Then he lands in the Premier League again at Everton Football Club. I think his career in England was perfect. What next? He decides MLS and in MLS you always have some iconic players that are doing to end their career there.
"You had (Steven) Gerrard, (Frank) Lampard, (Patrick) Vieira, so many of them. Now you have Zlatan (Ibrahimovic) and Wayne.
"So I just hope he enjoys and of course he will bring the attention that MLS needs to attract more people to steal people from the sports the Americans normally are in love with."
West Ham manager David Moyes was in charge of Everton when Rooney was handed his first-team debut at 16.
The pair were then reunited at Manchester United when Moyes took over from Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013.
"Wayne's been a great player and probably one of the best players to grace the last era of football," said Moyes.
"I really enjoyed him at Everton when he was young - and I enjoyed him at United - he helped me a lot at United.
"If he chooses to go to DC, they will be getting a good player - he can play in a couple of roles, he's a brilliant goalscorer and I still think he's got more to give."
