Jurgen Klopp admits top-four finish vital for Liverpool's summer transfer business

Jurgen Klopp admits qualification for the Champions League will have a large bearing on the players Liverpool can attract this summer.

The Reds are currently third in the Premier League table and travel to the London Stadium on Sunday to take on West Ham, live on Sky Sports 1 HD, in their penultimate game of the season.

Klopp admits discussions have already taken place with some of Liverpool's summer transfer targets and knows there is plenty of competition for their services.

When asked about the importance of a top-four finish for Liverpool's transfer plans, Klopp said: "It probably has influence. The players we are talking to - that is how it is. They are all good players.

"I know they have offers from other clubs so maybe they play Champions League.

"So it is important. Everybody knows there is a lot of money in the Champions League. It is not only the sporting challenge - which is really exciting - but it is also the money you can earn."

While Klopp admits a top-four finish will help Liverpool attract better players, he admits that is not something he has discussed in detail with his existing squad but he is confident they are determined to get back to the Champions League for the second time in seven seasons.

The German laughed as he explained: "I cannot go to the boys in the dressing room and say 'boys, the better you play, the better the players are that take your places next year'. That would make absolutely no sense.

"But we all know the situation. The players want to qualify. They want to play in this fantastic tournament and so do I.

"In terms of the transfers we have to do around this, all the talks we have had have been very positive for us but that doesn't mean that it all will work out."

Klopp confirmed midfielder Adam Lallana and striker Daniel Sturridge are both in contention to start against the Hammers this weekend after being limited to a couple of substitute appearances each since returning from injury.

Forward Roberto Firmino and midfielder Lucas Leiva are doubts with muscle injuries.
