Premier League grades: Man City crumble, harsh results for Stoke and Southampton

Paul Pogba celebrates after Manchester United beat Manchester City

Who was top of the class in the Premier League at the weekend, and who needs to do more homework? Tony Cottee gives us his grades...

Burnley - B+

TC: I don't think they were the better team on the day, but they've got the three points and that's what it's all about. Sean Dyche has done an amazing job, it's phenomenal where they are and what they've done.

Watford 1-2 Burnley

Newcastle - B+

TC: Newcastle should perhaps be a fraction higher but it's always difficult when you're one of those promoted teams, it's a difficult league to get promoted to. They've hit a bit of form, though and it's a great result to win away at Leicester, which is always a tough place to go.

Crystal Palace - B

TC: It was a good performance and they should have won the game, but getting pegged back means I can't give them anything more. Having Wilfried Zaha back was good and he was on form, they look like they're going to stay up. You want to have the impetus at this end of the season and with the start they had, keeping them up will be fantastic for Roy.

Bournemouth 2-2 Crystal Palace

Bournemouth - B

TC: They never give up, they keep plugging away. There's plenty of teams in their position where they're sort of safe, and would have folded. But they keep fighting and coming back from behind. Eddie Howe has done such a great job, and for a club with such small attendances it's amazing what they're achieving.

Manchester United - B

TC: First half was an E, second an A. But you can't give them a C, it's a fantastic result. Their performance in the first half was so bad, but it's an unbelievable result and will do a lot for them.

Man City 2-3 Man Utd

Arsenal - B

TC: It's a good result. They got the three points, it's that stage of the season where they have difficult games where they seem to get a result. Southampton made it tough, but they got through. Arsenal might not have won this a few weeks ago, and they deserve credit.

Southampton - B

TC: They haven't done a lot wrong. They should really have got a point, looked much more competitive as they did at West Ham, but playing well and not getting anything keeps them in big, big trouble. They'll take belief from this, which they'll need against Chelsea next week.

Arsenal 3-2 Southampton

West Ham - B

TC: It's a fantastic point in terms of getting away from the relegation mire, but they didn't play well at all, certainly in the first half. They hung on in, battled away and Javier Hernandez came on and did what he's good at. They could've had a penalty, too.

Tottenham - B

TC: It wasn't a particularly great performance from them but it was effective, and in Christian Eriksen they've got a player who is on the top of his game. It was a great result for them and pretty much cements their chances of finishing in the top four.

Stoke 1-2 Tottenham

Manchester City - B

TC: In the first-half they'd be an A, and a D for the second. They should have wrapped the game up, and then they were poor after half-time. They still could have nicked an equaliser, but it's a poor result for them obviously.

Everton - C

TC: Not a lot happened in the game. It was only in the last 10 to 15 minutes when they started to create any chances. I would have liked to have seen a little bit more from my old team. They would've looked at the line-up, saw they made five changes and felt they had to get the three points but they never really got going.

Everton 0-0 Liverpool

Chelsea - C

TC: They played well in terms of creating chances, but they didn't take them. You felt like if West Ham could stay in the game, they might get an equaliser or a winner come the end. From their point of view, it's a really poor result.

Liverpool - C

TC: Liverpool made lots of changes, so in the grand scheme of things they will look at it and see it as a point gained. But it just wasn't a particularly good game, and their performance wasn't the best.

West Brom - C

TC: It was a game really lacking in quality. The first half was particularly disappointing, There's no lack of effort there, they got a goal in front, and were working hard for Darren Moore and hoping to help him get the job at the end of the season.

West Brom 1-1 Swansea

Swansea - C

TC: I was disappointed with them. They nicked a point but never really got going until the West Brom goal went in. They're not out of trouble and will think this is two points dropped. The problem for all the teams will be if Southampton or Stoke can get a win to pull them back in. Swansea need a couple of wins to be sure.

Watford - C

TC: Watford didn't do anything wrong until the mad five minutes. I thought it would be a draw and I'll have to give them a C for losing the game, but they should have got more than that had they not seen those errors creep in again. They've just got to look forward to next week now.

Huddersfield - C

TC: It's a good away point for Huddersfield, and Brighton have been good at home this year. But I worry for them, ultimately I'm not sure there's the quality in the squad there. David Wagner has done a great job, the players deserve credit they're still fighting. They'll fancy their chances at least.

Brighton 1-1 Huddersfield

Stoke - C

TC: I'll give them a C for the result, but by all accounts it was a pretty decent performance from them. They took the game to Spurs, had a couple of good chances and really should have scored at the end, but we're at that stage where with five games left, they need results. It's not about performances now.

Leicester - C

TC: They battled hard, should have had a penalty through Riyad Mahrez, and they should have got at least a draw. They will have looked at this game, though, as one they were targeting three points from. They'll still fancy their chances of seventh, but having had that poor start finishing eighth will be good for them.

Leicester 1-2 Newcastle

Brighton - C

TC: Brighton will be disappointed not to win it, having looked at it and Huddersfield and felt there was a good chance to get three points. There was the sending off which made it difficult, but they still would have felt there was a game there to be won.
