Nabil Fekir’s agent has confirmed Liverpool are interested in signing the Lyon midfielder but warned a deal is far from done.

Fekir was outstanding for Lyon last season - his first as club captain - as he scored 21 goals and added nine assists in 39 appearances for the Ligue 1 side.

That form has attracted the interest of Liverpool, according to Fekir's agent Jean-Pierre Bernes, but he claims discussions between the player and the Reds have yet to take place.

Would Lyon captain Nabil Fekir be a good fit at Liverpool?

"Talks with Liverpool will only happen when there is an agreement with Lyon and Jean-Michel Aulas gives the green light," Bernes told French outlet Le Progres.

"Liverpool's interest exists, but for now nothing is done. The transfer window is long. Other clubs could show interest."

Bernes' comments echo those of Lyon president Aulas, who said last week he had not discussed Fekir with Liverpool.

"I do not have an appointment with the leaders of Liverpool. There is no urgency at all. We are perfectly serene," Aulas told Lyon's website.

Fekir himself, said last week a move to Liverpool was not imminent and he was considering offers from a number of clubs.

"I'm not close to Liverpool," Fekir told Telefoot. "It's true that there are discussions with several clubs. As I said, I will take the time to think."
