Arsenal right-back Mathieu Debuchy is considering whether to join Aston Villa or another Premier League club on loan but has not yet decided where he will move.

The Frenchman has insisted he cannot stay at Arsenal for the rest of the season, having struggled to break into the first team ahead of Hector Bellerin, but is unsure over joining Remi Garde's struggling Villans.

Debuchy told French newspaper L'Equipe: "It's true that there are clubs looking to sign me and right now I'm assessing my options.

"Whatever happens, I want to leave, even on loan. I can't stay at Arsenal.

"Aston Villa are in great difficulty and that's why I'm taking time before making a decision. They're a big English club and I'm not ruling out the possibility.

"I have also talked to Remi Garde over the phone."

Debuchy signed for Arsenal from Newcastle in July 2014 for £12m but he has made just two Premier League starts this term.

Asked if he regrets not leaving the Emirates in the summer, he replied: "Yes, I clearly lost six months.

"I would have preferred to leave last summer but the coach told me I would have my chance - it was not the case.

"I do not know who is responsible. Last year I got injured and I've been away a long time and Bellerin played some good matches.

"This summer, I had a good preparation and I was able to resume the season - but the coach decided otherwise.

"It is very hard, I went through difficult times. This is the first time I find myself in this situation. Playing a match every two months, that's not possible."
