CENTRE-BACK: John Stones

One of the most-talented defenders of his generation, John Stones learned his craft alongside Osman at Everton after leaving Barnsley in 2013. His meteoric rise then attracted suitors, with Manchester City signing him for £47.5m this summer.

CENTRE-BACK: Phil Jagielka

Club captain Phil Jagielka has been the rock at the heart of the Everton defence for the past 10 seasons. Brought to the club by David Moyes in 2007, the England international has remained at the forefront of Roberto Martinez and Ronald Koeman's plans at Goodison Park, racking more than 300 appearances for the Toffees.

LEFT-BACK: Leighton Baines

With his wand of a left foot, Leighton Baines completes Osman's all-English back four. Having been on Everton's books as a youngster, the full-back rose to prominence at Wigan before returning to Goodison Park in 2007. He has gone on to rack up an impressive 33 goals in just over 350 appearances for the Toffees.

RIGHT MIDFIELD: Mikel Arteta

Another player to have joined Everton on an initial loan, Mikel Arteta quickly won a place in the hearts of the Goodison Park faithful with a string of eye-catching appearances following his arrival from Real Sociedad. The Spaniard would spend six years on Merseyside, making over 200 appearances before joining Arsenal in 2011.

CENTRE MIDFIELD: Steven Gerrard

A ferocious rivalry across the Stanley Park divide was put to one side in 2012 when Osman was called into Roy Hodgson's England squad. Osman's first international call up presented a rare opportunity to line up alongside Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard, with the Merseyside pair partnered in midfield in November's 4-2 defeat in Sweden.

CENTRE MIDFIELD: Gareth Barry

The fact only Ryan Giggs and Frank Lampard stand ahead of Barry in the all-time Premier League appearance charts speak volumes for about his ability to continually affect games. Now in his fifth season at Goodison Park, the former England international has been the elder statesmen in a youthful Everton team but continues to prove his worth on the highest of stages.

LEFT MIDFIELD: Steven Pienaar

Loaned to Everton in 2007 by Borussia Dortmund, former South Africa international Steven Pienaar lived up to his billing as one of the bright lights of African football. After three seasons under David Moyes, Pienaar joined Spurs but soon found himself back on Merseyside, again. The playmaker made more than 200 appearances for the club over two spells before teaming up with Moyes at Sunderland this summer.

ATTACKING MIDFIELD: Tim Cahill

A symbol of grit, determination and attacking prowess, Tim Cahill endeared himself to Everton supporters during a glittering eight-year spell at Goodison Park. Signed from Millwall in 2004, the Australian had a habit of scoring big goals in the big games, hitting the back of the net 68 times in 256 appearances for the Toffees. He left Everton exactly eight years after he joined as he embarked on the next chapter in his career with MLS franchise New York Red Bulls.

STRIKER: Wayne Rooney

England's all-time leading goalscorer grabbed the nation's attention in 2003 with a scintillating breakthrough into the Everton first-team. Wayne Rooney's iconic debut Premier League strike against Arsenal was one of 17 he hit for his boyhood club before he joined Manchester United in 2004. But that tally could well be set to rise, with Osman tipping Rooney to return to Goodison Park one day.
