Bolton Wanderers will be placed into administration on Monday if they fail to agree a takeover or sell more of their assets.

The Sky Bet Championship's bottom club have been served with a winding-up petition by HMRC, which is due to be heard on January 18, and they need to raise funds before then.

Bolton have already agreed to sell Mark Davies to Sheffield Wednesday and Zach Clough to Bristol City but Sky Sports understands the duo have yet to agree personal terms.

And Wanderers are not willing to sell any more players as a transfer embargo imposed by the Football League prevents them from buying any replacements.

Sky sources report Wigan have expressed an interest in buying Bolton's Euxton training ground for £2.5m but nothing has been finalised yet.

Sky also understands that Bolton's financial adviser Trevor Birch is still talking to four parties interested in buying the club, who are believed to be Sports Shield Consortium - fronted by former Wanderers player Dean Holdsworth - consortiums from the US and India, plus one other.
