Harry Kane insists consistency for Tottenham is more important to him than retaining the Premier League Golden Boot.
Mohamed Salah looks likely to take the top goalscorer award, possessing a three-goal lead over the Spurs man going into the final weekend of the season, having already matched the all-time Premier League record of 31 goals in a league season in his first year at Anfield.
That incredible season for the Egypt international would have been enough to secure the Golden Boots Kane won in 2015/16 and 2016/17, when he scored 25 and 29 times respectively.
The prospect of missing out on a third accolade in a row doesn't bother the 24-year-old, though, who says he's more concerned about the improvements he's made to his game.
"It's been another good year, another consistent year and hopefully I can score a few more and try to get to that 30 goal mark in the Premier League," he told Sky Sports.
"I'm happy, it's been a good season, it's been consistent over the whole season. There's been rare spells where I've not scored, I always try to improve and where I can get better and I've done better than last year.
"Of course, I want to retain the boot but consistency is the most important thing for me, getting 25-plus goals in the Perrier League season after season.
"And there'll always be payers who come and do well. Mo's had a fantastic year, who knows what'll happen, but for me it's about doing it year after year."
Spurs have endured a 10th year without a trophy, missing out again in the FA Cup semi-finals and losing in the last-16 of the Champions League at their temporary home of Wembley.
But a third successive season of Champions League football was assured with a 1-0 win over Newcastle in midweek, something Kane feels helps balance the disappointment of missing out on silverware.
"Obviously we'd have loved to have won a trophy this year but the way the club is progressing and going into the new stadium, it was really important we got in the top four," Kane added. "It's such a big stage, and with some top, top players we want to be playing on that stage. It's tough to put a mark on the season. It's been a good season, a really good season.
"Playing at Wembley was never going to be easy, a lot of people wrote us off early on to get in the Champions league because of it.
"We played 38 games away from home, really, in a league which is really competitive, especially the top six. People underestimate that, and what we've done but I'd give it a good eight out of 10."
